Some breast cancers overexpress a type of enzyme called Nek3, which plays a role in how a cell organizes itself and moves throughout the body. This image shows breast cancer cells overexpressing the enzyme Nek3 (red), revealing marked enlargement of focal adhesions and associated proteins such as paxillin (pink) that help the cell's cytoskeleton (actin, in green) connect to surrounding tissues. This research provides the rationale for a targeted therapy against Nek3. Nuclear DNA is pictured in in blue.
