Normal Mouse Mammary Cells
Title: | Normal Mouse Mammary Cells |
---|---|
Description: |
Mouse cells that have been taken from the mammary gland are placed into special plates and allowed to grow into 3D sphere formations. These spheres react more like in vivo mammary glands and retain many qualities of the normal gland, compared to growing cells as sheets on a plate. We can use these spheres to look at gene expressions, investigative drug treatments and other manipulations that we might not be able to do directly in the mouse. Sphere shown here was stained with hematoxylin and eosin to distinguish structural features. Hemotoxylin stains blue and binds to negative regions such as the nucleus containing DNA while eosin stains red and binds to positive regions such as proteins in the stroma.
