Title: | Vascular Invasion by Cancer Cells |
---|---|
Description: |
Zebrafish are a useful animal model in which to study the characteristics and behavior of human cancer cells. This image shows cells that were derived from a patient with adenoid cystic carcinoma of the salivary gland and placed in zebrafish embryos. The cells are invading the animal's vascular system, a hallmark of metastasis. Yellow arrow indicates the site of red-labeled tumor cells; zebrafish vasculature is labeled with green fluorescent protein. This image was originally submitted as part of the 2016 NCI Cancer Close Up project. |
