Title: Vascular Invasion by Cancer Cells
Description: Zebrafish are a useful animal model in which to study the characteristics and behavior of human cancer cells. This image shows cells that were derived from a patient with adenoid cystic carcinoma of the salivary gland and placed in zebrafish embryos. The cells are invading the animal's vascular system, a hallmark of metastasis. Yellow arrow indicates the site of red-labeled tumor cells; zebrafish vasculature is labeled with green fluorescent protein.
