The hypothalamus (part of the brain) releases luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH), which causes the pituitary to make and release the hormones luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). In females, LH and FSH cause the ovaries to make estrogen and progesterone, which act on the endometrium (inner lining of the uterus) and on other tissues in the body. Estrogen and progesterone may cause some breast cancer cells to grow. |
