Title: Lowy and Schiller Win 2017 Lasker Award
Description: Dr. Douglas R. Lowy (center) of the National Cancer Institute at the ceremony for the 2017 Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Awards. Dr. Lowy and NCI's Dr. John T. Schiller received the Lasker Award for their significant research leading to the development of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines. The award is the country’s most prestigious biomedical research prize. HPV vaccines are now used to help prevent HPV infections associated with cervical cancer and other diseases.

Dr. Lowy is Chief, and Dr. Schiller is Deputy Chief, of the Laboratory of Cellular Oncology at the NCI Center for Cancer Research. Dr. Lowy is also Acting Director of NCI.
